Weekend Update: Prologue

We're back! Doreen and I had a fantastic weekend exploring Normandy and Brittany with some friends from HEC. The itinerary was a little different than we had planned, because math is a little different in France than in the U.S.

It's supposed to take about 45 minutes to get from Montparnasse, where we live, to Charles de Gaulle, where we pick up the rental car. From CDG to HEC, it's supposed to be about an hour and 15 minutes by car. Add 30 minutes to do the paperwork to rent the car, and you'd think we should budget about 2.5 hours to leave the house, get the car, and pick up our friends from HEC.

It took a little over 4 hours. Each way. We didn't get home last night till 1:30am. Ugh.

So: We did not make it to Omaha Beach. We did not tour Mont Saint Michel. We skipped Fougeres. We are really tired.

But: We saw the tide recede at Saint Malo. We saw the Medieval village of Dinan. We saw Mont Saint Michel at night. We saw the Bayeux tapestry, all 70 meters of it. And we had a really great time.

Over the next couple of days, Doreen and I will be posting our weekend adventures. We did so much, it'll take us a few days to get everything up. Stay tuned!
