French protests over 35-hour week
Despite living in Paris, I was blissfully unaware that 30,000 people demonstrated in Paris on Saturday:
Thousands of people have taken part in demonstrations across France against the government's plan to reform the 35-hour week. Police estimated about 300,000 people took part in marches across France.
"Increase salaries, not hours," said a banner carried by protesters in Lille in the northeast, where at least 9,000 marched.
Demonstrators have been buoyed by a recent poll showing that at least 69% of the French public supports the current protests. [Read more in the Jerusalem Post or from the BBC.]
I would've liked to have seen the demonstrations. When I was in Spain last year, I saw a manifestación in Granada about the terrorist train bombing in Madrid on 3/11. It was very interesting to watch the political dialog going on.
