L'Amour des Jeux
The International Olympic Committee is in Paris this week to evaluate Paris' candidacy to host the Olympics in 2012. Ever since we arrived, Paris has been full of signs and banners proclaiming "L'Amour des Jeux" -- the love of the Games.
I noticed yesterday that the campaign is being cranked up. Even in Jouy-en-Josas, a sleepy suburb twice removed from Paris that I'm sure no one visits, all the buses had "L'Amour des Jeux" flags.
I didn't know that the Stade de France (where I met the Scottish rugby hooligans) was built with the Olympics in mind, but it makes sense. Though the neighborhood is indeed "gritty" as the NY Times reports, it's no worse really than the area around the L.A. Coliseum. Kind of curious now to see the Batignolles district in the 17th, just to see how it might change.
